Course Costs

There are a number of costs associated with attending University.A summary of these costs for domestic students commencing study in 2010 is provided below (all costs are approximate):

Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS-HELP)	$4249 - $8859

HECS fees are charged at different rates depending on your selection of subjects. As a guide, the four different levels of HECS (for domestic students) are indicated below:

These costs are discounted for up-front payment, but most students defer HECS liabilities until they commence earning a salary.
The national priority maximum annual student contribution amount applies tostudents who commenced their course of study on, or after, 01 January 2009 regardless of the course of study. The national priority maximum also applies to continuing students who transfer to a course of study in the Natural and Physical Sciences from one that is not.
Mathematics, statistics and science units of study are those units of study in the Natural and Physical Sciences Field of Education that are classified in Chapter 9 of the Commonwealth Grant Scheme (CGS) Guidelines as being in Funding Cluster 3 or 6. The Guidelines may alter in updated Guidelines following legislative amendment.
Pre-2010 students: Grandfathering arrangements exist for Commonwealth supported students who commenced a course of study prior to 01 January 2010 and had not completed that course prior to that date. Information about these arrangements is available at www.goingtouni.gov.au

HECS-HELP Benefit

The Commonwealth HECS-HELP benefit aims to encourage graduates of mathematics, science, education or nursing courses of study to take up employment in related occupations – eligible graduates have the ability to reduce their HELP repayments and/or debt by applying for a HECS-HELP benefit.
Currently the benefit reduces repayments by up to $1500 per year, for up to five years.

Financial assistance
Youth Allowance (for people aged between 16 and 24 years), Austudy (for people 25 years or more) and Abstudy are Australian Government schemes that provide financial assistance to eligible students. Information booklets and application formsfor these schemes are available from:
